Today, a best friend and grandmother figure spends her first day - TopicsExpress

Today, a best friend and grandmother figure spends her first day with Jesus. My heart is not heavy because she went, it is heavy because I couldn’t be there to wave goodbye as she crossed into her promised land. It must have been quite a welcome, she must be having the best day of her life. I cannot even imagine her joy in finally escaping her mortal body, seeing her Savior, her dear husband, and all of her long departed friends and family. She has been packed and waiting for this journey for so many years now. She will be sorely missed, but she will live on every time I can a run of garden vegetables. Watch my jams and jellies set. Every time I identify poke, turnip, and collard greens. When I ace my costume class due to the superior knowledge of stitchery that comes with long hours of quilting. Every time I make a cake and promptly throw it off of the side of a hill because it isn’t pretty enough. Her memory will be in the sunlight that shines on afternoon porches, cold glasses of Coke, Wheel-of-Fortune, and a bottomless candy dish. May I someday be as great as she was, by doing all the little, simple things that add up to being extraordinary.
