Today, after many years of being gone, I am returning to school; - TopicsExpress

Today, after many years of being gone, I am returning to school; not as a mommy dropping off her son, but as a student…..an old, middle age student, in a sea of young teeny boppers. In preparation of such a monumental event, I have spent the last few days watching movies that hopefully, realistically convey the ideal of returning to school. For example: One of my favorite movies of all time is Grease 2. I know ….I know….some of you just rolled your eyes at me; but I can’t help it. I loved the movie and for years desperately sought the Pink Lady jacket wore by Stephanie Zanoini. Still searching……however, if I understand the movie correctly, as I arrive in the school parking lot, I am to exit my car singing, and dance a little ditty. If I’m assuming correctly, there will be others….a flash mob if you will, who will already be singing and dancing in the parking lot, as others, back up dancers will be exiting school buses singing harmony……..I, at that point, am to simply follow their lead into the doors of the school whereas the bell will ring and we all will be in class. I’m ok with that; but my only fear is…….what if I don’t know the words to the song? Oh well, one hurdle at a time…..one hurdle at a time…..now in another movie, I believe there will a really cute guy, a REALLY cute guy, who is the quintessential Casanova; for whom the student body adores. He will be popular, but a screw up, and will be in need of tutor in order to bring up his grades to make his parents, who pay the tuition, proud. I believe I am to befriend this individual, as he seems to have all the connections in school; and frankly will know all the cool places to party. I’m not to keen on partying anymore; but it nice to know someone with connections…..you know…..just in case. Finally, I believe there will be a Fraternity on campus known for it’s innovative creations (i.e. ANYTHNG) and it’s ability to outsmart the school dean at every turn. If I’m ever in need of outsmarting the Dean of Students, I am to seek out said Fraternity (of which I believe the Cute Guy belongs if I know my movies right) and ask for assistance. Other small items the movies have taught me: 1. Stay away from the school cafeteria. There seems to always be something nefarious going on there; and with a fat dead guy always yelling, “Food Fight” I just don’t’ need that kind of distraction. 2. The Dean of Students is always an a**hole. Why is that? Can’t he just respect our right to party, and be young? Why is he always trying to bring us down? I’m hoping the Cute Guys gets him a girl to calm him down; because I really need to focus on my education. 3. The smart, studious student always gets picked on and bullied. I hope this is more the exception than the norm. I don’t do well with bullies and as I plan to be the studious one; I would hate to have some unsuspecting student “try me” because “I”, unlike the movies will kick their butts…..oh wait. That’s not a good way to start my year; maybe I’ll be friends with the Cute Guy. No one messes with him or his friends. Friends, I’m excited but a little leery. What if no one likes me? What if the teachers are out to get me? How am I suppose to excel if all people ever do is mess around, make out and make whoopee? You realize I’m a happily married woman right? Oh wait, those are pretty popular as well….guess I need to keep my nose to the grindstone and focus. I’m nervous. So many new issues to worry about now. When I was in school we were focused, studious, and well behaved. Man times have changed……pray for me, I’ll let you know how it goes. Ok, gotta go. School starts in an hour, and I still don’t have my books……be well today…..if you’re not too busy you can come watch me sing and dance later. Remember you set the Tone, you ARE the Example. BE KIND to each other Show GRACE and MERCY to all those who cross your path today. With your Daily Affirmations complete, enjoy your Monday.
