RELIGION We have just enough religion to make us hate, but not enough to make us love one another. -- Jonathan Swift Religion is a powerful influence in the world, but so often the power is negative. It has been used to judge, divide, separate and control people; rob them of their freedom and creativity; chain them to creeds and teachings that are not comprehensible. Unfortunately, religion has become dull and lifeless for many people and Gods love is missed. But the power of creative spirituality is alive in Gods world. It unites and frees the people so that they can be discovered in their individuality. Difference is accepted, choice is respected and healing is perceived in our ability to love. Let me ever bring the gift of Gods spirituality to those who have misplaced it. Religion and spirituality are not the same...Religion is Head Knowledge and spirituality is heart knowledge.... We can belong to a religion, but not truly know God. We can be spiritual and not belong to a certain religion. Jesus walked this earth, not as a baptist, Methodist, Hindu, Muslim, etc, but as the Son of God... Mankind made up these Religions..Jesus did not have a $1,000,000 building with all the Modern electronics in it..Jesus did not look around Him and want his people to be sure and wear their best expensive clothes to show off their wealth...Jesus wanted to help the poor, the dirty, needy people of this world... When I lived in Jackson, I would ride by the big, expensive churches and think...Wow, How many people could have been helped with the money they spent on that building?...(God told me to quit Judging them too) Billy Graham has been preaching the Word of God all his life, raised millions of dollars, and today, as always, just takes a salary..He gives the rest away to help others...If you want to know how a true Man of God lives, read his biography..I respect him above all the other Media preachers.. I used to have a problem with Organized religion before I moved back to Refuge Plantation..That is when I became a member of Belzoni Presbyterian Church...It is a church where I have never felt Judged by anyone because of my past..These people are sinners , the same as me.. Richard Wiman, my pastor, will tell you he is a sinner too, and all he can do, is the same as the rest of us...Pray for forgiveness and try not to do it again..That is my kind of leader..Lead by example, not by judgement...Jesus says we all are like sheep that have gone astray, but He is the Shepard and will leave his flock of 99 to find the one lost, because he loves us all the same.. Today, I rambled a little, but spoke what was on my heart...I hope it will help just one person to better understand how religion and spirituality work in our lives..And the need to fellowship (Religion) with others that also strive to do Gods work here on earth..
