Today at Trader Joes, I came across an organic protein bar with no mention of peanut or cross-contam! I allow my two boys, both of whom have no food allergies, to eat a number of different protein bars with a cross-contam warning, although nothing with actual peanut in it. But for my 9-year-old daughter, who is severely allergic and anaphylactic, this is a sore spot. She wants an easy snack after fast-pitch, or in her snack bag during long days of school testing or road trips, etc. I put protein bar in quotes b/c this bar has WAY more sugar than protein, but at least its a start- or is it? The same line produces peanut butter bars- and I cant find anything on their website to explain how they may be produced on separate lines, or if not, how the lines are cleaned. The brand is Pure Organic: thepurebar/ And the two I bought were Choclate Brownie Bar and Cherry Cashew Bar. Obviously, my child doesnt have a tree nut allergy. Shes not a big nut fan of any sort, but she does r eally want to have an occasional protein bar, or nut/seed bar that is safe to eat. Here is the message I sent them through their web inquiry: Hello, I am double checking on the safety of the Fruit & Nut Chocolate Brownie Bar, and the Fruit & Nut Cherry Cashew Bar in terms of peanut allergy/peanut safety. While I see there are no peanut ingredients listed on the label, and no peanut cross-contamination warning, we also see that you do use peanuts and peanut product in other selections. As our child is anaphylactic to 1/10000 of a peanut protein, it is essential we know your practices. As Im sure you understand, being anaphylactic means exposure to a minute bit of a peanut protein WILL stop her from breathing, and we have seen it happen. Do you run the bars with no mention of peanuts in another facility than those that may include peanuts, peanut butter or peanut proteins? If you run them in the same facility, do you run NON-peanut first each day, then run the peanut products, then sanitize the lines and follow up with a swab test to insure total removal of the allergen? If so, what documentation can you provide for that? It is VERY difficult for us to find products like yours with no peanut warning, but even though we bought a lot of them, we still need to get our questions answered before we can safely allow our child to eat them. This question, and your response, will be shared here: https://facebook/groups/POKWASPeanutAllergy/ Thank you so much, we truly hope your product is one we can feed our child safely and with confidence! Erin Steed Ill let you know what I hear, but in the meantime, if you know, please share!
