Today at the Bird Cage, the subject of Danny Kaye films came up. Rovin Jay and I decided that, despite our respect for the virtues of THE COURT JESTER (and my particular fondness for WONDER MAN), our favorite of his films is the generally underrated THE FIVE PENNIES, at least in part because its an excellent showcase for his skills as a dramatic actor and singer, which were perhaps as great as (and Id suggest probably even greater than) his talent as a comedian. Not that he doesnt get to be very funny in the film as well, though.
