Today both teams caught the Gondola to Telluride (we are actually staying in Mountain Village) and went for a hike up the side of the valley amongst stands of spruce and Douglas fur and fields of lupen flowers. The area is full of mining relics, clinging to the steep forested countryside, slowly rotting into the ground. The uphill climb is actually great for polar training as hauling the body upward against gravity is not dissimilar to the action and effort required to haul a sled across a horizontal plain. The hike ended with beautiful views across the valley and a final stroll through town to the nearest bar!
