Today, five years ago, we officially purchased my skinny, untrained, misunderstood OTTB. (I know now, she was raced once, bred twice, and shuffled around to three+ homes in a year and a half.) Mia, JC name Golden Deception, became my greatest, most patient teacher as we both learned to event. She became the most trusted, most goofy mare anyone around her knew. We could place really well in an event one day, have off for a week, teach an 8yo a lesson, ride bareback through woods and farm fields, do second level dressage, then turn around and win grand champion in a hunter show. She was the perfect horse, until her last day, at the ripe young age 13. We were in a tragic trailer accident on our way to a lesson with Boyd Martin. I just want to show everyone that, even not right off the track, rescue horses have such heart and so much potential.
