Today has been a good day. Lots of final preparation for the transplant in the morning were and are being accomplished, including plasmapheresis, signing consent forms, getting lots of questions answered, and having visits from friends most of the afternoon. Amy and Rob arrived safely and dropped by, bringing cards from all of the children. Rob reports for final labs in the morning and then is free til he reports for surgery Tuesday morning. The evening will be pretty relaxed as Jonathan receives a special IV concoction that he needs before transplant. He is also listening to a special CD to learn how to do accents (French, Indian, and Italian) so if you call sometime and get his answering machine, who knows what accent he will be using! As you pray for tomorrow please pray for the doctors as well as Jonathan. This transplant has some challenges not usually encountered and they need to be especially creative and will need to draw on all their skills to find the best place to attach the kidney in the midline (kind of above his stomach area) AFTER they remove all the scar tissue which may be in the way from past infections and peritoneal lines. This will be a major incision! Anyway, without a lot more detail, suffice it to say that it will be a long surgery ( minimum 6-7 hrs.). The donor will be in a nearby operating room at the same time, so the kidney will be unattached as little time as possible. Thank you for all of your prayers!
