Today has been quite rainy with dark clouds and light winds. In spite of that, Sondra accompanied me to the Dedication Ceremony of the Seminole Nation Cemetery and Veterans Memorial. It was just completed and the first veteran interred recently was the last Code Talker of the Seminole Tribe. Two representatives from Washington D.C. also came for this special ceremony. The Seminole Nation is one of only five tribes that now has a federally-recognized Veterans Cemetery on tribal land. After the ceremony, we then gathered at the Grisso Mansion (owned by the tribe) for a meal and special presentation of a medal to a tribal Korean War veteran. This was an historic and emotional day for many. I felt honored to be a part of it, as I am now the Veterans Service Officer for the Seminole Nation ... and am also a proud veteran who served in the early 1970s.
