Today, here in Wasilla Ak. we gathered for a memorial remembering my son Patrick Ohara. I was pleased to see so many of his friends present and willing to share their love for him. His younger brother Chris OHara offered a moving tribute I will forever cherish. I was given the opportunity to speak, and shared some scripture illustrating how my faith has given me the strength to overcome my personal grief and celebrate the joy of knowing that with our shared faith he is now with his grandparents who loved him, and he will prepare to greet me also, when when my work on this earth is done. I am so thankful for the tremendous outpouring of love and support, prayers and reassurance, kindness and love each of you have gone out of your way and sacrificed to eagerly provide so that I could be here today. It has not escaped my notice, that through the pain of this tragedy, I have been given a rare glimpse, or insight that few of us ever realize. I am so humbled by the kind words all have come forward and spoken of their personal opinion of me. (See, I know me & I keep trying to figure out who this guy Yall are talking about is). I pray now that I am equal to the task of living up to being the man you all describe. On behalf of my entire family, I thank you all with a depth of gratitude I have not words to describe.
