Today if we need ice for our coolers, making home made ice cream, etc. we simply go to the supermarket or convenience store to make our purchase. In my childhood days this wasnt an option. In the summer when my mom was freezing vegetables (to be stored at the rental freezer locker at Foils on South Fulton st.) she needed ice to quickly chill the vegetables after being blanched so they could be packaged and placed in the freezer. She would send my dad (with my brother and I , sometimes maybe my sister) to buy a block of ice at the ice plant on East Horah St. Does anyone remember buying ice the old fashioned way?
