Today in 80s History: 1981- John Hinckley, Jr. shot President Ronald Reagan, Press Secretary James Brady, a police officer, and a secret service agent. Brady was the most seriously injured, being left paralyzed and with brain damage. Hinckley, obsessed with actress Jodie Foster, thought by assassinating the President, he would gain her admiration. He was found not guilty by reason of insanity and placed in a psychiatric hospital for an indeterminate amount of time 1984- Romancing the Stone (Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, Danny DeVito; followed by the sequel The Jewel of the Nile) opened in movie theaters 1985- Some Like It Hot, by Power Station, entered the Top 40 chart. It went on to peak at #6 1985- One More Night, by Phil Collins, peaked at #1 on the pop singles chart and stayed there for 2 weeks 1986- James Cagney (film- won a Best Actor Oscar for Yankee Doodle Dandy) died after suffering a heart attack. He was 86 1988- Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Catherine OHara, Winona Ryder, Jeffrey Jones, Robert Goulet, Dick Cavett) opened in movie theaters
