Today in History: The Miracle on the Hudson was five years ago today. On the morning of January 15, 2009, a flock of geese destroyed the engines of US Airways Flight 1549, as the plane took off from New York Citys LaGuardia Airport. Captain Chesley Sully Sullenberger managed to steer the plane away from crashing into the city, which surely wouldve meant disaster, instead landing it gently enough onto the Hudson River that all 155 passengers, plus five crew members, survived.
