Today in Weather History On November 19, 1996...A strong cold core weather system in combination with subtropical moisture moved into Oregon and Washington causing heavy rain and snowfall, local flooding, landslides, and power outages. Record rainfall amounts fell across the state including the Elk River Fish Hatchery near Port Orford with 11.65 inches, which was the highest one day total ever reported for an official station. Unofficial reports from southwest Oregon mountain locations reported totals in excess of 20 inches. Meanwhile in Washington, Goldendale had between 15 and 20 inches of snow in a 24 hour period that cut the power to 75% of the @KlickitatPUD customers and Cle Elum had 15 inches of snow that closed the schools for that day.
