Today in history is the 150th anniversary of William Quantrill & Bushwackers riding into Lawrence, Kansas and raiding the town. The issueance of Order #11 from General Ewing (Federal) came on August 23rd 1863 as a result of the raid in Lawrence. The Order made citizens from both sides leave their farms/homes in Jackson, Cass, Bates, and Vernon counties of Missouri. Farmers lost their almost ready to harvest corn fields, livestock, & property and evacuate the area. Those persons that remained were shot or imprisoned. Their fields & livestock were robbed. What a time to survive during Civil war.
