Today in micro-politics.. On the bus. I am standing, together with a male friend of mine, because all seats are taken. A handsome, broadly built, guy asks me: Would you like to sit? Me: No thank you, I am not tired, I am perfectly fine. He (already on his feet): But I insist. Me: Thanks, but I cant. I am feminist. ;) He: Really?! My male friend: But I would like to sit! He: No, not for you. ..... 30 minutes later .... I am walking with two male friends. We are all carrying bags of groceries and my friend offers me to carry mine as well. Me: No, thank you. I am fine. He: Kim, dont be such a European feminist. Me: But I am! He: But I want to be a gentleman! Me: Then be a gentleman by allowing me to make my own choice to carry my own groceries. No matter how kind (and appreciated) your intentions guys, I will never become physically strong if you always take away the weight from my arms, or urge me to sit whenever I can perfectly stand myself! :)
