Today in the travel talk I met a lady called Gladys. I always take the microphone around the audience for the first 5 minutes of the talk and randomly chat with guests. It was as I was doing this that I met Gladys and her husband Russell. They are from a place called Laketown, Utah, population..............250. What a great couple and as I interviewed them the 1000 guests present heard that this was their first cruise and their first proper vacation in 20 years to celebrate Russells retirement from running something he called a 3 stop shop. They were obviously so excited to be on the ship and as they spoke about this being their first vacation in 20 years and the first time out of the state of Utah in 10 years I could not help but think of something. In the post below we were talking about bigger ships but it was not that long ago really was it when our founder Ted Arison told the travel industry that he intended to build a brand new purpose built cruise vessel . Some in the industry fainted while some soiled their underpants. But imagine if Mr. Arison had not done that. I wonder …………..would cruising still only be available to people with double barrel names and lapdogs and would Gladys and Russell from Laketown, Utah every have been able to take a cruise to Alaska. Probably not.
