Today is Forget Me Not Friday and this Friday belongs to our own Miya from North Carolina. Miya and her dad Adam are members of our H2M2 North Carolina group. This is Miya’s story as told by their friend Josie. “Amemiya, affectionately known as Miya was taken from this world December 2013. She owned the heart of Adam G for five wonderful years, and was a loyal faithful companion and friend. Miya had gone missing on December 5 th 2013. This was completely unlike her, as she was completely familiar with the lands and had never gone missing like this before. Adam thought that maybe someone had stolen her, but never that she was intentionally hurt. After hundreds of dollars spent on radio advertisements, flyers, posters, and even a hunter who tracked down wounded animals – Miya was found on December 16th . She had been shot on private property by an arrow. The shot was illegal as it was not bow season in NC, and was intentional, as they ripped out the shaft but left the head in so there would be no evidence of who wounded her. The neighbor’s property where she had been wounded was romping grounds for Miya since she was a pup, and were familiar of her sweet presence. They even stated that they did not permit any hunting whatsoever on their land. Adam received an anonymous call about two months later stating : “I shot your dog, she was digging in my trash”. Whether that was a prank call or not, it was disgusting, cruel, and completely unfair. All Adam hopes is that justice is served for his beloved little angel, Miya. Precious soul, run freely as you have touched our lives for the better. Your presence will always be near, for you will always be in our hearts.” Sadly, the police have said that there is nothing that they can do. We will continue to share Miya’s story and ensure that we NEVER forget what happened. REST in PEACE sweet Miya – We Remember you! This is our September to Remember and our Hike to Reflect We must never forget. We must be their voice… A unified voice to implement change. As Matt Falk mentioned in the petition for Logan’s Law: “Every fire starts from a single spark.” Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes and Northern Breeds UNITE! We MUST FAN THE FLAME...
