Today is Friday, September 20, 2013 Today in Texas History 1865 - Jacob Brodbeck claimed he flew in a self-designed "airship" for about 100 feet before crashing near Luckenbach, TX. The craft was destroyed in the crash and was not rebuilt. 1905 - In Dallas, Texas Baptist University held its first classes. 1967 - Hurrican Beulah struck south Texas. At least 18 people were killed, more than 9,000 were injured or sick, and 3,000 homes were damaged. 1973 - Jim Croce was killed in a plane crash on his way to Sherman, TX, for a concert. Maury Muehleisen and four others were also killed. 1971 - Robert E. Short received approval from AL owners to move the Senators franchise from Washington, DC to Arlington, Texas for the 1972 season.
