Today is Gene Roddenberrys birthday. He was the creator of Star Trek. Ive never discussed the matter publicly, but Im a pretty hardcore Trekkie. I have not one, but two Star Fleet Technical Manuals on my bookshelf at home. I loved the original series, but The Next Generation was and always will be my favorite. Its hard to pick a favorite episode. The ones with the Borg were always amazing, of course. But some of my favorites were when the mischievous Q came around. There was often some great humor in those episodes. And when NTG was funny, it was very funny. An episode that always comes to mind for me is the one entitled Qpid. You may remember it as the Robin Hood episode. Its hard to explain Q if youve never watched The Next Generation, but he was something of a nemesis to Captain Picard and in this episode, he transforms Picard into Robin Hood, members of the senior staff into his merry men and sends them all off to Sherwood Forest. Hilarity ensues. Happy birthday to Mr. Roddenberry and a salute to my fellow Trekkies. Live long and prosper. Heres one of my favorite scenes from that great episode:
