Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. As we reflect on the horrible things humans have done to each other in the past let us remember that if we are not careful we can and will commit similar atrocities again. Do not allow anyone to convince you that an entire group of people are irredeemably evil and do not hate blindly. That is how one group dehumanizes an other until no one sees anything wrong with removing the problem. Some time ago I came across a play that has since been made into a movie with the shared title of God on Trial. Despite the title this is not an atheistic story, rather it flashes between a group of Jewish people living in Auschwitz during World War II and tourists visiting the former holocaust camp. The Jewish prisoners put God on trial in absentia for abandoning them. The play is based on an event described by Elie Wiesel in his book The Trial of God. The story is considered apocryphal and for obvious reasons is not suitable for children and the faint of heart.
