He was discovered on the Arthur Godfreys Talent Show like Patsy Cline was. Married three times, divorced twice. First wife was to Colleen McClatchey, they divorced in 1961, after 4 years of marriage. They had two children together, son Michael and daughter Michelle. Colleen died of a blood clot in 1967. His second wife was to Trudy Buck, they divorced in 1976 after six years of marriage. They had two children together, sons Logan and Casey. His third wife is to Mary Biggerstaff, they been married now 37 years and have one child together, daughter Catrine. In 1967 he was roughed up by Police Officers in Los Angeles, while intoxicated, he claimed police brutality, it was settled out of court for $200,000.00. He suffered severe brain injury and trauma to the head. It left him with nerve damage, partially disabled. In spite of his disability, he opened a music publishing company, dabbled in Real Estate, and remodeled houses, even skydived for awhile.
