Today is July 4th, a day that was marked over 200 years ago to celebrate America’s independence. Since the ratification of this sacred document, the Declaration of Independence, America has experienced a rich and sometimes troubled history. But through it all, America emerged as the greatest nation to ever exist on earth. However, with such success, reconizing the foundations for this success, then candidate Barack Obama said during the 2008 presidential campaign that when elected he would “fundamentally transform” America. No one fundamentally transforms anything that they love. They may enhance, tweak even fix features or elements but to make fundamental change is to change the basic core underpinnings. For America those underpinnings are faith in God, self-reliance, hard work, love of country and independence. To go one step further than her husband, Michelle Obama said that we would also have to change our history and traditions. On this Fourth of July, the Obamas have literally accomplished their objectives. Today, I barely recognize my beloved America. From gay marriage, perpetuating and glamorizing the gay life style; to attacks on religion and religious institutions, to the invasion of personal privacy and other Constitutional violations, America has been fundamentally transformed, for the worse. This Fourth of July I hope America steps back, takes a deep breath and assess the condition of our great land. From this assessment, I hope and pray that more Americans will become involved to reconnect our great land to all of its history and traditions.
