Sun / Surya/ சூரியன் ஜபா குஸும ஸங்காசம் காச்ய பேயம் மஹாத்யுதிம் தமோரிம் ஸர்வ பாபக்நம் ப்ரணதோஸ்மிதிவாகரம் जपाकुसुमसंकाशं काश्यपेयं महाद्युतिम् । तमोऽरिंम सर्वपापघ्नं प्रणतोऽस्मि दिवाकरम् ।। Japaa Kusuma Samkaasham Kaashya Peyam Mahaa Dyutim Tamorim Sarva Papaghnam Pranatosmin Divakaram Meaning : I pray to Sun, who shines like the japaa flower, the descendent of Kaashyapa who destroys all sins, the enemy of darkness and the one with great brilliance. ग्रहाणामादिरादित्यो लोकरक्षणकारकः । विषमस्थानसम्भूतां पीड़ा हरतु मे रविः ।। Grahanaam Aadhiraadithyo Loka Rakshana Karakah Vishamasthana Sambhootham Peedam Harathu Me Ravih One who is the First among all Planets, who is the cause for Protecting the World & who causes troubles by his position. Please Steal Away all My Troubles, Oh! Sun. Surya Vandhanam It is very auspicious to chant twelve names of Lord Surya in the early morning just before or at Sunrise. Following are the twelve names which can be used to bow our head to that Aadithya Bhagavan who energizes the whole world. Some people do the vandanam of Bhagavan in the form of Surya Namaskaaram. Even if we are not able to do that, we can start our day with these namaskaara manthraas of Surya Bhagavan. . 1. Aum Mithraaya Nama: ஓம் மித்ராய நம: ഓം മിത്രായ നമ: ॐ मित्राय नम: Mithra means friend. Lord Surya is Jaganmithra of friend of the whole world. 2. Aum RavayE nama: ஓம் ரவயே நம: ഓം രവയേ നമ: ॐ रवये नम:: Ravi is radiance of tejas or glow. 3. Aum Sooryaaya Nama: ஓம் சூர்யாய நம: ഓം സൂര്യായ നമ: ॐ सूर्याय नम: Surya is one who dispels darkness. One who inspires and energizes. 4. Aum BhaanavE nama: ஓம் பானவே நம: ഓം ഭാനവേ നമ: ॐ भानवे नम: Bhaanu is the one shining brightly, dispelling darkness or ignorance 5. Aum khagaaya Nama: ஓம் ககாய நம: ഓം ഖഗായ നമ: ॐ खगाय नम: Khag is sky and gama is to go. So Khagaya means one who travels in the sky. And hence stands for the one who is all pervading. 6.Aum pooshnE nama: ஓம் பூஷ்ணே நம: ഓം പൂഷ്ണേ നമ: ॐ पूष्णे नम: Pooshan stands for the one who is like a mystic fire which gives or one who provides nutrition. 7. Aum Hiranyagarbhaaya nama: ஓம் ஹிரண்யகர்பாய நம: ഓം ഹിരണ്യഗർഭായ നമ: ॐ हिरण्यगर्भाय नम: Hiranyam means gold and one who is golden in color and contain the whole world with in Him or the golden womb of the universe. 8. Aum mareechayE nama: ஓம் மரீசயே நம: ഓം മരീചയേ നമ: ॐ मरीचये नम: .Marichi is mirage. So Lord surya is the one who can save us from the mirage of life or illusion of life by giving us the power of discrimination or vivekam. 9. Aum savithrE nama: ஓம் சவித்ரே நம: ഓം സവിത്രേ നമ: ॐ सवित्रे नम: Stands for the light capable of enlightening. Also the one who is ever active and activates others. 10. Aum Arkkaaya nama: ஓம் அர்க்காய நம: ഓം അർക്കായ നമ: ॐ अर्काय नम: Arka means extract. or essence. He is the essence and guiding light of our life who teaches us the art of living. 11. Aum Aadithyaaya nama: ஓம் ஆதித்யாய நம: ഓം ആദിത്യായ നമ: ॐ आदित्याय नम: Aadithya means son of Adithi. The Sun aspect of Mahavishnu born as the son of Adithi. 12. Aum Bhaaskkaraaya nama: ஓம் பாஸ்கராய நம ഓം ഭാസ്ക്കരായ നമ: ॐ भास्कराय नम: Bhaskara means one who is shining or tejasvi and the bestower of divine, eternal happiness. May Surya Bhagavan dispel all the darkness within us !!!
