Today is World Autism Awareness day. Here at Team Dingle - TopicsExpress

Today is World Autism Awareness day. Here at Team Dingle headquarters Autism Awareness takes place every day. Matty is now 3 years old, and was diagnosed a year ago at 2. Hes made unbelievable gains and I am fortunate to be able to make sure that he gets the services that he needs. One thing the doctors and therapists always tell me is that Ive done a great job securing the services and therapies that I need. It hasnt been easy though, and just last week I hung up with a speech therapy company in tears. Fighting to get Matthew services is a real fight!! But Im built and ready for it! Matthew gets speech, occupational therapy, ABA therapy, and is in school 4 half days a week. He also gets the added benefit of having a mother who is so determined to see her son succeed that she is taking classes to become an ABA therapist herself and will hopefully one day be a BCBA. But today isnt just about my son. Its about all of the children with autism who struggle each day to make sense of this world. Whose parents have to deal with strange looks as their children stim, or make vocalizations. For the parents who have to fight the insurance companies and those who didnt even know that they could fight the insurance companies. For the mommies and daddies who are sleepy because the sleep aid meds that their child has to take, didnt work last night. To the mommies and daddies who are fixing one meal for the family and a separate one for their child on the spectrum that doesn’t have any thing crunchy, anything soft, green, white, or with gluten in it. For the mommies and daddies who lock and double lock their doors not because they fear someone might get in but because they are afraid that their child may get out. For the mommies and daddies who have never heard their child say “I love you”… Today is Autism Awareness Day. Light it up BLUE!
