Today is World Diabetes Day! Buildings a and people around the world will be lit in blue! My Diabetes day was 4 years ago Nov 9. It was the day my beautiful 18 month old boy was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. I couldnt figure out what I did wrong, I thought all my hopes and dreams for him were gone forever. I was told he would forever need finger stabs and shots or wear an insulin pump, I was told the complications (that I already knew), I felt like I was thrown under a fast moving train. World Diabetes Day honors Dr. Banting and his discovery of insulin. Without it my child would be dead by now. I am so thankful for Dr Banting, now my boy will go on to do whatever he sets his heart and mind to and then some because diabetes has made him stronger. I pray every day that he sees a cure in his lifetime, I would give up everything for that cure. Insulin is NOT a cure, its life support and that very drug that saves his life could also kill him if not careful and watchful (thank you Sanders dog!). Please help raise awareness, Type 1 Diabetes is an epidemic, is not preventable, nobody knows the cause (NO ITS NOT OBESITY OR TOO MUCH JUNK FOOD!!) and it can strike anyone at anytime....even you.
