Today is a going to be a great day because Allen Iverson #3 will be retired in Philadelphia. He changed the basketball culture with his crossover on Michael Jordan at the First Union Center. His love hate relationship with Larry Brown which took Allen from a Superstar to a Hall of Famer was a definite plus. Regardless if people understand the man, from a clinical prospective I want you too think about this? From what I researched! Allen grew up in the small town of Hampton, Virginia. Allen mother Ann had him at the modest age of 16, which Allen father didnt stick around to care for Allen. Allen did have a mentor who stuck around and introduced him to football and basketball and his name is Michael Freeman who worked at the shipyards of Hampton Va. Ann Iverson who had a high school diploma only could find a part time job which she did her best to support her children. Allen also was introduced to football where he was a star at Bethel and was a star Quarterback in 1992 and also was recruited as a #1 Defensive back in Va. Once Allen was introduced to basketball he became unstoppable with a 41 inch vertical leap, and an unstoppable crossover. Allen first year stats as a sophomore had him smashing state records with him earning 948 points and a jaw dropping 37 point performance his first game. After this times got dark for Allen when the bowling alley brawl landed Iverson on trial and convicted guilty and 5 years in jail but was pardoned by the Governor but instead focusing on this I will talk about the family adversity which built the mind, strength, and gave him the drive to succeed. During Allen adolescent life he was subjected to raw sewage for years because his mother couldnt afford too make changes too the living conditions, Allen also took care of his siblings when the water, electricity, and heat was shutoff how many 16 years could sustain that responsibility? Ann Iverson promised her children it wouldnt be like this forever, which Allen believed and stayed patient, and worked hard for his family. Allen then was recruited by the Georgetown Hoyas and John Thompson. Allen became a Big East Legend with only playing 2 seasons, and jumped to the league in 1996 and became the NBA Rookie of the year and a whole lot of other accomplishments such as Winning the NBA scoring title during the 1998–99, 2000–01, 2001–02 and 2004–05 seasons, Iverson was one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history, despite his small stature (listed at 6 feet, 0 inches). His regular season career scoring average of 26.7 points per game ranks sixth all-time, and his playoff career scoring average of 29.7 points per game is second only to Michael Jordan. Iverson was also the NBA Most Valuable Player of the 2000–01 season and led his team to the 2001 NBA Finals the same season. Iverson represented the United States at the 2004 Summer Olympics, winning the bronze medal. He also played for the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons and the Memphis Grizzlies, before ending his NBA career with the 76ers during the 2009–10 season. youtube/watch?v=J-70I0kJCIU We thank you! from the Anybody Sports Blog: and your blood, sweat and tears to the City Of Brotherly love.
