Today is a good day for me. I, and many others, have been working on the One Million Climate Jobs project for six years. Today the lads from PCS delivered thousands of copies of the new, and much improved, edition of our climate jobs report to my doorstep. It looks beautiful. We launch it at a conference on Saturday. I sit here happily editing the footnotes for the online references. I, and many others, have built the idea of global climate demonstrations since early in 2005. Sunday will see the biggest climate demonstration in world history in New York, the city where I was born. There will be similar protests and events in 158 countries on the same day. I will be on the one in London, which is shaping up to be very good. I sit here and remember talking about a a national climate demonstration at a meeting in New York eight years ago. But more than anything, I am thinking about Phil Thornhill. And tonight I will sit and watch the election results flow in from Scotland. I remember dancing to A Nation Once Again in the climbers bar of the Clachaig in Glencoe with my father, Terry Neale. Terry was in his 60s, and we danced so hard and drunk and happy he knocked over the speakers. He loved Scotland, and visited from America at least 50 times in his life. I wish he was alive and on the sofa beside me tonight. The world is becoming an increasingly terrible place. Sometimes at night, I despair. But today I feel part of a vast army that has struggled for years, and will for many more. And I feel that what each of us does in the hard slog of many years makes a difference in the end.
