Today is a grand day to be alive. It is my 62nd birthday and I - TopicsExpress

Today is a grand day to be alive. It is my 62nd birthday and I feel so very lucky to be here. I think of all of my friends and relatives who did not make it to this age: Corey Wallace, Dale Porter, Mel Sparkman, Richard Cruit, Jimmy Walker, Scott Thornton, Melanie Albright, Kathy Belser, Janice Donahue, Amy Brumley, Joe Reese Brumley plus others who do not immediately come to mind and I will hate myself later for not remembering them. In fact, a thing that I use to end my pity parties when I am depressed is to think about those friends who died so prematurely, and to realize how lucky I am to have lived when they did not. Ups and downs, loves and losses, good things and bad, life beats the alternative. Will is here from LA so that makes this birthday even more special. It is nice that I am old enough to draw Social Security but can afford not to do so. It is nice that Janet just called from her car, returning from the Post Office and is going to stop to buy some wine. It is nice that I spent the last several hours in the yard, cutting grass, pulling weeds, sprigging the lawn with some centipede and St Augustine. Tonight my children, Janet and I are going to dinner somewhere. We had a funny discussion last night about a number of Montgomery restaurants that we consider to serve mediocre but dependable food. I will not call names but they are pleasant venues with wide ranging menus that never change and the food is nothing to write home about. These restaurants are good places to take people who are not familiar with Montgomery because they can always find something that they can order. Mediocre but dependable is a curious combination for a restaurant. Janets son, Jarod, just arrived so Ill get off the computer. We are busy putting together furniture and stuff for his apartment at Montevallo.
