Today is a sad day for lung cancer prevention and treatment. MEDAC’s recommendation is short-sighted, and shows we need to better educate clinicians on the value of lung cancer CT screening. Thankfully yesterday’s recommendation was not binding, and we hope CMS makes the right decision later this year. For 15 years we have been studying this issue. We have clear results that screening can save lives by finding lung cancer early. If we lose one patient because this screening is denied payment it is one too many. Do the right thing.
