Today is a special day in the traditions of my family, its my sister Sarahs birthday! Woot!!! Love you so much. Xoxo and its St. Michaelmas day. As children we spent the day baking bread in the shape of a dragon, filled with jam and as we told the story of George and the dragon we took turns slaying the bread. Music and folk lore joined the biblical story as we spent the afternoon creating dragons out of leaves collected outside and put on shadow plays of the tale. Its a cherished memory for me and this year my kids are old enough to actually participate in the activities, we havent figured out a safe bread recipe to recreate that tradition but we made some amazing fire breathing dragons and read the stories of English folklore and Celtic Christianity. This verse, taken from the old Gaelic, uses the dragon symbol for evil. Michael the victorious Thou Michael the victorious, I make my circuit under thy shield.
