Today is a very proud yet very very sad day for me. I found out my client is eligible for school services and may graduate next week. I started as a behavior therapist at the autism clinic in August and my little guy started shortly after. Since I was new my supervisors debated giving him to me due to being far behind his peers in all areas. He had no structure , problems with violent outburst and compliance , biting , could not speak or make sounds ( except Mmmmm) he would not make eye contact and would spend hours looking up at lights with no motivation to engage with his peers or sit down for group, lunch or circle time . As a very proud therapist I can say he now sits with others , complies with our program structure ,makes eye contact , laughs, smiles , recognizes his name and more importantly communicates through picture exchanges . Everyone told me he would take over a year to be ready to graduate and after four months of blood sweat and tears ( by both therapist and client ) in clinic he is now ready. I love you little guy and cant wait to see how far you will go!!
