Today is about new beginnings.... Fresh starts. Yesterday we had a call regarding a homeless man who had been hired at a job that would take him to a new town to start a new life. He had no way to get to his destination. WYD bought him a bus ticket and gave him a few things to make his transition easier. I met him at the bus station. He was sitting there with 2 or 3 wornout rucksacks at his feet. He looked tired and weary. We had a nice conversation. He told me he had found his job online and was amazed with how so many doors were opening for him. I told him that when God has a plan for your life.... he will open the doors to allow you to reach your destination. He asked me who we were and he was perplexed at why strangers would do this for him. I will pay you back, he said. I looked into his eyes and said.... We dont ask for repayment...we only ask that if and when you get on your feet...if someone asks for your help....pay it forward. His mouth flew open in astonishment and big tears welled up in his eyes and rolled down his cheeks. My heart fell to the floor when I saw the tears. I will...ohhh... I WILL...I promise you...., he said, as he wiped the tears from his eyes. At that moment...I again remembered how much I loved doing this. Here was a man...who was homeless....and because he believed and persevered...God was opening doors to his new beginnings. Here I was...someone who was questioning what I was doing...becoming bitter with those who take advantage...and wondering if we were even making a difference at all. God again...answered my doubts with this mans tears. He opened my heart again... with new hope that we were helping others so they too can have new beginnings. We were a door that opened for him...and that was a good feeling. So look at this Easter Day as a new fresh beginning. Put God first in your life and the doors will open for you. Its funny how God... always comes through when your heart becomes choked with smoke from a world that isnt always what you want it to be. He has a way of coming in...throwing open the windows and doors and letting in the fresh air. A way of making you new again. Little note I would like to add.... my homeless mans name was Moses. Maybe...just maybe... he was an Angel...sent by God to clear the smoke out of my heart. Who really knows? All I can say is....if he was.. it worked. God Bless you all...and have a Blessed Easter. He has risen! -MM
