Today is day 5 of remembering Derrick with pictures. As I said earlier, we always had animals of some sort around and snakes (not an animal) were no exception. Derrick found his first non-poisonous snake and that began his quest of being the proud owner of pet snakes. The first picture is of him holding his first one he found in the yard. The second picture is of him holding his birthday present...yep, you heard me right. He wanted a yellow rat snake for his birthday so we got him one!!! He kept them in a fish tank, and Jim and I would purchase mice at Walmart to feed them. Yes, I said THEM because he would have more than one at certain times. It was a good educational experience because we learned not all snakes are bad and how to tell them apart. Life was never dull.
