Today is designated as the International Day of the Girl Child by - TopicsExpress

Today is designated as the International Day of the Girl Child by the UN, an incredibly important day of awareness and of change in the right direction. I wrote the first version of ‘Dheeaan’ (daughters) after listening to Noor Jehan’s beautiful rendition of the popular Pakistani song “Eh Puttar Hattan te Nahi Vikde” meaning “Our sons cannot be bought in the marketplace.” But as melodic as Noor Jehan’s voice was, or how much I loved its tune, the tone and message of the song always irked me because of what was left unsaid. If sons cannot be bought at the marketplace, what is being implied about daughters? Spread the word about bringing awareness to this day in your own way https://youtube/watch?v=dVCg9SY9YKs
