Today is my last day at AMC Empire 25 (for now). It has been quite the experience working at the busiest movie theatre in the Northern Hemisphere. The Empire is a 13 story building with a glass facade. There are six levels and over 150,000 square feet. There are 25 theatres with 5,000 seats. 24 bathrooms, 19 escalators, 4 concession stands and 4 outdoor terraces that overlook 42nd street. There are 2 premium theatres IMAX and ETX with screens that are three stories tall. The original Empire theatre opened to the public as a legit Broadway theatre on September 11, 1912 and to make room for the movie / entertainment complex built in 1999, the building was lifted and moved 170 feet down 42nd street. Close to 2 million guests visit the theatre in a year. Aside from being a bastion for big Hollywood films the Empire is one of New York Citys biggest theatres for independent, foreign and art house films. From the big opening weekends, the red carpet premiers, the marathons, Best Picture Showcase and the amazing New Years Eve party I have loved every minute I have spent in this theatre. Ive enjoyed meeting thousands of guests who love movies as much as I do and know that the best place to see a movie is on opening night at the Empire.
