Today is the 25th Anniversary of the fall of the Berlin - TopicsExpress

Today is the 25th Anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. While I was serving in the Army in Germany in 1976, Sperrie and I went to Berlin and took a guided bus tour through Checkpoint Charlie and into East Berlin. In June 1987 President Ronald Reagan stood at the Wall and against the recommendation of his advisors, delivered one of the more memorable lines from a Presidential speech, Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall! Never did we think we would see in our lifetime the fall of the wall. 25 years ago today freedom prevailed despite totalitarianism. In 1996 on the way to an Ameridan Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry meeting in San Diego, Sperrie and I visited the Reagan Presidential Library and on the grounds was a large section of the Berlin Wall. Freedom had come full circle thanks to every President from Truman through George H. W. Bush continuing the fight against communism. Cincinnati has its own section of the Berlin Wall at the Freedom Center. History does a nice job of recounting the history of the wall for those who care to read for themselves or worthy of sharing with the younger generations. To Freedom Prevailing. Dr G Skip
