Today is the Neptunalia. In ancient Italy, the deity Neptune (or Nethuns) was honored with a feast drawn from the harvests of land and sea. Prior to identification with the Greek Poseidon, Neptune ruled ALL water, was the patron of the Etruscan aqueduct system, and presided over irrigation. He also had some connections as a Guardian of the gate or veil between worlds, based on some very fragmentary lore. Might I suggest a succulent feast involving locally grown produce and, mayhaps, some delectable seafood, shared with your loved ones, in honor of this day?
