Today is the anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education. In that - TopicsExpress

Today is the anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education. In that being said, it brings me to a conversation I had with my four year old niece last week. She was playing a Barbie game here, and I sat next to her and said Oh cool, I want to play. She handed it over and I chose my doll. My choice was an African American doll and she goes, in a semi-sneer Aunt Kimmy, that doll is black! Of which I replied So, whats wring with that? Shes the same as all the other Barbies except she has a different skin color. She has the same blood, the same limbs, and is just as beautiful as the other Barbies. I was astounded I had to have that conversation with my niece, and dont know where she picked it up. Now, she picks the African American Barbie and dresses her just like she does the others although she repeats to me Its ok, shes just like the others. But even with her saying that that way, it tells me someone is teaching her something that is in contrast to what I am. That makes me sad. I know its not her mom, so I dont know where shes picking it up, all it know is I must stop it. This way of thinking and teaching children needs to stop. There are a lot of people out there still that are behind the back racists. We dont have room in this world for people like you. If you chose to hate because of a layer of skin, you are a sick individual full of evil. I dont know how many times I have heard Im not a racist, I just dont think we should mix. THAT is racist. You all know youve heard it before, you likely have a narrow minded family member saying it, a friend or even you. Racism is real......many of you sit idly by and let someone say things like that. Do like I do, say something. Lets stop this disgusting crap.
