Today is the birthday of Bill Black (September 17, 1926 – October 21, 1965).. Most well known as the bassist in Elvis Presleys early trio and the leader of Bill Blacks Combo. Black’s along with guitarist Scotty Moore backed Elvis in early recording sessions and tour dates. Black’s slapping bass style and comic relief on stage helped propel Elvis to superstar status.
