Today is the birthday of the only father Ive ever known, Dr. Huber C. Anyim Palmer. A strong, educated self-made man who survived the Japanese campaign in the Philippines as a soldier in WWII and was awarded a bronze star, who inspired many and helped them build and promote their own businesses, a man who started a private school after hearing too often as a LAUSD educator that black children were too dumb and had children from the hood doing calculus and reading at a college level by the 6th grade (and was given awards from Bush (Dubya) and Villaragosa for his great work in the field of education)... Alzheimers has a firm grip on him now and it breaks my heart daily, but I am glad hes alive and in pretty good health and I expect him to roll on through until he decides he has had enough. On this day I salute him. I love you, Gramps...
