Today is the first day of the academic school year that I embark on my new position as a T.O.S.A.—Teacher On Special Assignment for the school year. Life is full of change and I am grateful to my district and colleagues for this opportunity to grow both personally and professionally. One aspect that can’t be measured by any sort of paper assessment is dedication. This week as I visited schools, I viewed teachers and staff putting together their classrooms using both their personal time and money to put the needs of our students first. I am proud to work with you. I continue to learn and be inspired by you. It can’t be said often enough, but we are fortunate to have highly dedicated teachers and staff that constantly go above and beyond the call of duty in this district. I see it everyday. I look forward to learning from you as we work together this year. Regardless of what curriculum you use, modules or not, the only true proven way to raise student achievement is through the classroom teacher. When you bring out the best in us, you bring out the best in others. Each school year brings about its own set of challenges. One of the hardest aspects of this job, for myself as well, is to not lose your song. This is what you bring to the classroom and your students.
