Today is the last day for individuals diagnosed with a 9/11-related cancer to register with the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) to be eligible for assistance through the Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act. As a 9/11 first-responder who worked on the pile, I know how important this lifeline is to countless victims and responders suffering from 9/11-related cancer, which is why I am a proud cosponsor of the Zadroga reauthorization bill. Just last month, our hearts broke at the news that three FDNY firefighters: Daniel Heglund, Robert Leaver, and Lt. Howard Bischoff all passed away from cancer on the same day. The VCF provides hope and crucial health assistance to our first-responders and God-willing will help ensure that fewer and fewer families have to experience such tragedy.
