Today marks a momentous occasion on my FaceBook usage as I have gained 1,000 friends. I say friends with quotation marks because probably, in all likelihood, we are not actual friends. Maybe we just passed by each other once, maybe you just like clicking the friend button and are here reading this by mistake, maybe you are experiencing severe Stockholm Syndrome. But despite all of that, I try to keep a meaningful connection anyways. I believe I have spoken, maybe only briefly, with all of you at some point. I would like to believe that was meaningful discourse, but I cannot say for sure. The truth of the matter is that I have few close friends, and Im okay with that. I think the real practical application of these websites is to get to know people, to see beyond the cliché writing over image memes, and whiny FaceBook status updates. And to organize IRL events. I would like to encourage more meaningful interactions between all of you wonderful people reading this right now, or pleasant banter when Im not busy. Im generally very good at replying unless I have no idea how to respond.
