Today marks the first anniversary of my leaving Discovery Consulting to become a financial advisor again. It has been a really interesting, tough, challenging and emotional year – and I thank you all for the part you played in helping me to “survive” that all important “first year boot camp”. Like all of us tend to do, I used the last few weeks before this anniversary to review the last year, and formulate my path forwards. I have done a lot right, but can improve in many areas, and need to keep adding value to my clients – after all, my genuine intention is to have clients for life. So, this process of evaluation has highlighted two primary areas of concern:- · I need access to better resources in terms of compliance, service providers, etc. · I travel a lot, so I need to know that you will be looked after should something happen to me. Consequently, I am pleased to inform you that I have accepted an offer from Succession Financial Planning Advisory Services (Pty) Ltd, to continue my work under their umbrella. This change in the brokerage that I work for, will not impact my clients negatively in any way – on the contrary, it will help me address both of the primary concerns mentioned above, and better position me to be of effective service going forwards. SFP is a very big brokerage, originally from Gauteng, that was bought into the Sanlam stable. However, I must stress that the brokerage operates on an independent advice basis – there is no prescription as to which product providers I can use. In fact, they give me access to a greater number of providers, which will enable me to better ensure that my clients requirements are matched to the best product to a much greater degree. I am excited by the prospect of being able to now have a parent organization that can do all those required corporate thingies for me, and allow me to concentrate on my clients at a more personal level, where I can add better value.
