Today marks the fourth year since my husband was struck with the life-threatening illness known as mosquito-borne encephalitis. At 8:30 AM, that terrifying morning our lives changed forever. My husband laid in a coma with a team of 18 doctors working furiously for three weeks to determine how to mend the damage and bring my husband back from death. His body and mind were ravaged and he was left with a shell he could barely recognize. Our lives have revolved around this and the disability that it has left him with every day since then. It has opened my eyes to many realities and possibilities. Limitations and expectations. Hopes, dreams, disaster and climax….we’ve had em all. Ups and downs….added together….call it post-traumatic growth or benefit finding or “Becca went batshit crazy” or whatever you feel you need to call it….I’m on a path now not of my making. If you choose to stand with us, we’ll be thankful for the company….if this new life of ours is too much for you….please….we won’t be offended if you choose not to be a part. We want teammates and not combatants! Hugs, not hurt! We will spend this day being thankful for what we have and not worrying about what we don’t! Love you all! Thank you for everything!
