Today, my family and I remember a very very special person in my life, my grandmother, mi abuelita, Doña Carmen Quiñonez. I loved spending my summers as a child in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico with her, raising chickens, dogs, cats, a horse and a cow. I can see her in her bata and her chancletas sweeping the water from the cement outside of her home with a broomstick that had branches and leaves tied to it, making that loud sweeping sound. She would sit outside in her chair, drinking her coffee. She would loudly bang the pots together as she made us our delicious food. In the evening, it was novela time and she would sit right in front of the tv and Lord help you if you interrupted. She would yell, Cayate carajo!! She would call my brother, El Prieto, because he was darker than me and he tanned, and she would call me, El Blanco, hence the nickname, because I was whiter than my brother and I would burn in the sun. I remember taking the hot vans with the small fans in the corners full of people to church which was always followed by supermarket shopping in Yabucoa. There are so many memories of her and I loved her so much. I miss her today and every time I think of her. May you rest in Gods glory and eternal embrace mi abuelita preciosa! Here is a song that always makes me think of her and I dedicate it to her! https://youtube/watch?v=9xz7AuK5wBM
