Today, my favorite album of all time was released.... I cant tell you how many times Ive listened to this album. I often get asked, if I had to listen to one record, just one, for the rest of my life, I never hesitate. Every time, the answer is Abbey Road. Its an opus, a masterpiece from the first bass lines of Come Together to that last, almost incomplete sounding bar of music at the end of Her Majesty. To me, it defines what listening to a record should be. There is flow between tracks and Im not just talking about the medley on the B-Side. The A-Side - where does one start? Something, which Frank Sinatra said was his favorite Lennon/McCartney song? Or how about I Want You (Shes So Heavy) which send chills all the way down my spin every time I hear it? What about Here Comes the Sun, which has so much personal meaning to me that it brings a tear to my eye, almost chokes me up EVERY time I hear it? This album really made me fall in love with The Beatles, head over heels. Ive had people also ask me whats been my favorite DJ gig. Its simple. I was asked by the fantastic Sarah Michaelson to DJ this kind of low key craft night/DJ dance party at the now defunct Lo Pub. Was such a fantastic concept that I couldnt say no. The evening started off with a lot of high energy, with people dancing and as the night moved along, the vibe got a lot more casual and relaxed. It was at that point that I grabbed Abbey Road from my DJ box, put on the B-Side Medley and just...let it play out. I remember Jack, the owner at the time, when he realized I was letting the B-Side play out, giving me two thumbs up from behind the bar at the other end of the room. When other people around the room tuned in to that, I could see them singing along, almost everyone that was left in that bar swaying to the music, tapping along their toes, etc. Not every day you can get away with doing that in a bar, was glad I was able to. Time to put on Abbey Road, me thinks.
