Today my friend and grandmother’s little brother, Klas de Vylder, celebrates his 100th birthday! He and his wife, (96 years old) still live in their villa outside Stockholm and he still drives their car to the shopping. During the 60’s, Klas worked several years in Africa (Liberia) as a financial auditor at a Swedish mining company, and his his grandfather’s uncle, Gustaf de Vylder, was a naturalist that explored what later became the German South-West Africa (Namibia). He also lived in Cape Town in the 1870’s, below pictured with a Bushman boy he adopted. I have a small cabinet here in Maputo that he has made!
