Today my heart was sad to hear of the death of Carl Sloacum. Carl and Sylvia are members at Christ United Methodist in Warner Robins. Both are tremendous individuals who have been very supportive of the church and active members for years. Carl was still active on the Finance Committee. But notably, Carl was an individual who spoke and lived a life of integrity. He had a wonderful dry wit about him. In the short time that I had the privilege to serve at CUMC, I found Carl to be someone who was trustworthy and knowledgeable, helpful and caring. Supportive of efforts and interested in the growth of the church, he was willing to listen to all sides of the story. Not many people can have that said of them. But that was Carl, a giant of a man with a big heart. And a man of humility, this was a man who did many things that people never knew that he did for he was not about receiving "recognition" for his actions. This community has lost a good businessman, a generous spirit, a dedicated family man and a man with a heart for others. To his precious wife, Sylivia, his children and grandchildren, I extend my heartfelt sympathy and prayers as you go through this time of grief. May you know in these moments, the sweetness of the memories which include the blessed memories of his sharp wit, his loving care, the precious times he shared with each of you and may those times come readily to mind in the days, months and years ahead when you want to reach out to him and call him by name to share something with him or to talk something over with him. And may you always know, just how much he loved each of you and carry those things with you and smile through the tears that now come so readily but one day may be lessened with time. And though, I too am sad this night, I am so thankful for having had the opportunity to have known him. So thankful, to have been able to have served with him for this short time.
